The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Caraga participated in the 5-day training workshop on Sustainable Futures through Agritech and Advocacy held from 9 to 13 February 2026 in Los Baรฑos, Laguna, to enhance its capacity to apply SARAI systems and technologies and convert scientific outputs into actionable advisories and strategic communication materials for agriculture based development initiatives.
Led by SARAI CeNTRO UPLB, the workshop enhanced the technical competencies of personnel from the DOST SARAI CeNTRO Regional Hubs, including SARAI staff from the Caraga Region. Training sessions covered key decisionโsupport and monitoring tools such as Crop Water Stress Assessment and the Water Advisory for Irrigation Scheduling System (WAISS), Soil and Nutrient Management for improved crop productivity, and Integrated Pest Management utilizing SPIDHIVE and the CL SEAMS SICAPP for communityโlevel monitoring.
In addition to technical training, regional staff were equipped with skills in developing Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials to strengthen advocacy and enhance effective communication. These competencies will support the promotion of SARAI initiatives through new media platforms and evidenceโbased content creation.
With strengthened competencies, DOST Caraga personnel are now better equipped to deliver SARAI services and provide technical support to more localities in the next phase of implementation.
